FSM is Back

I have arrived at the conclusion that nobody in More Beer league wants to play me.  Everyone is scared of me.  For all the wrong reasons.

I am the guy nobody wants to lose to at this point in the fantasy season.

Nothing has been said to me personally, but I've played fantasy football long enough to know how this little fraternity works.  I have the worst record in the league.  The least total points.  The second-most point against.  Simply awful.  Hell, I wouldn't want to lose to me.

Last week I fell to the Brainerd Bulldogs by just 3.8 points, so at least I'm competitive.  I'm scoring points.  Just not enough.

This week is the moment of truth.  I play team High Road.  This is the team I've negotiated trades with over the past couple of weeks.  I've dealt Philip Rivers, Chris Johnson and Brandon LaFell to High Road in exchange for Steve Smith, Frank Gore and Brandon Lloyd.

I've made changes to my team and I think I've improved my roster - but one thing was missing.  The biggest change of all.

I won the league championship in 1999 and at that time my team was called the Fighting Squirrel Monkeys.  The next year, to observe the new millenium, I changed my team name to the Big Brown Beavers.  And it seems that I've been cursed ever since.

So this week, overcome with superstitious thoughts and a longing to get back to those good ol' championship days, my board of directors voted to change my team name back to the original.  The Fighting Squirrel Monkeys are back.  This team was one of the charter members of the More Beer league (established in 1992).  The name never should have been changed in the first place.  It's good to be back.  And it's back for good.

The Fighting Squirrels Monkeys have got back to where they once belonged.
Whether this will help my fantasy misfortunes this season remains to be seen, but at this point it can't do any harm at all.

In Frozen Loon league, I laid a giant egg in our first-ever double header - what did I expect with Alex Smith as my starting quarterback?  My 4-1 team is suddenly 4-3.  Hopefully I will at least split the double header this week...
