Oh Boy! Bowl Season!!

I am waiting with baited breath for the bowl season to start, so that I can enjoy such ridiculousness as the AdvoCare V100 Bowl... or the Belk Bowl or New Era Pinstripe Bowl (two more meaningless bowl games added this year) or the Kraft Fight Hunger Bowl (featuring UCLA - a team that actually has a losing record - but it's a big school with a big following and they are guaranteed to haul in some cash um... "travel well").

Sarcasm aside, I am delighted to see that ESPN is actually featuring some games during prime viewing by a college football division that actually gets it.

Be sure to tune into the FCS playoff games; they are great to watch, teams are usually very evenly matched and whoever wins moves one step closer to a legitimate national championship game.  (By the way, GO BISON!)

Meanwhile, the BCS will feature a rematch of LSU and Alabama.  Here's some advice for both teams.

To LSU:
  • Don't feel too much pressure to win this game.  Even if you lose you still have a better case for the national championship, based on probability, statistics, algorithms and percentages.
  • Don't be distracted by the big stage or how you are being exploited by a system of institutionalized greed that perverts the very idea of higher education.  Okay?
To Alabama:
  • Continue to live by the philosophy that if you first don't succeed, try, try again take advantage of a system that overwhelmingly favors your conference.
  • Also, attempt to redeem the annual BCS mess by losing by fewer points than Oklahoma State would have.
